Innotec Power publishes seven 72 V motors between 4.8 and 6 kW continuous, rising to 7.6 to 14.2 kW at the 15-minute rating. Continuous torque runs from 15.9 to 34.6 Nm and rated speed from 1600 to 3600 rpm. All seven are on the 255 frame, in surface-magnet and interior-magnet rotors, and each has its own datasheet and performance curve.

How to read the three duty points

Each motor is rated three times: continuous at rated current, at 60 minutes, and at 15 minutes. The continuous number is what it will hold all day with its stated cooling; the 15-minute number is roughly double and covers the peaks. A scooter climbing a hill, a pump starting against head, a winch taking up slack — those live in the 15-minute column, not the continuous one.

Size the frame so its continuous rating covers the average of the duty cycle and its 15-minute rating covers the worst peak. Sizing on peak alone is how magnets get cooked.

Torque or speed at 5 kW

The seven models cover a wide spread at nearly the same power. 255-CZS72-080 gives 15.9 Nm at 3600 rpm; 255-FES72-080 gives 34.6 Nm at 1600 rpm. That is more than double the torque at under half the speed, from the same frame and the same bus.

If the design already has a reduction stage, the high-speed models are smaller and lighter for the same output. If you are trying to drive something directly, the low-speed models let you delete the gearbox, its losses and its maintenance.

Surface magnet or interior magnet

5 of the seven are surface-magnet and 2 are interior-magnet. SPM gives more torque per amp and a simpler thermal model. IPM adds reluctance torque and tolerates field weakening better, so it holds power further past base speed — worth having when the application needs a wide constant-power range rather than peak torque at one operating point. Where 5 kW at 72 V is used

This is the busiest power band on a 72 V bus. It covers light electric vehicles and three-wheelers, electric motorcycles, small hydraulic power packs, boat and trolling drives, agricultural sprayers and material-handling equipment. At 5 kW a 72 V system draws roughly 75 A continuous, which keeps cable, contactor and controller selection straightforward — one of the main reasons this band is so widely used.
