48V DC Generators – Reliable Power for Battery Charging Applications

At Innotec Power, we design and manufacture high-efficiency 48V DC generators for a wide range of power needs. Our DC generators are specially built to match the voltage requirements of battery banks used in mobile, industrial, and backup power applications.

One of the most common setups is the 48V DC bank, used in electric vehicles, telecom systems, and off-grid equipment. This size doesn’t always need a constant 48 volts, but instead requires a flexible range of charging voltages to match the characteristics of the battery bank. That’s where our smart DC gensets come in.

Smart Charging with Innotec’s 48V DC Gensets

Innotec’s 48V DC generators generally operate anywhere between 46VDC to 60VDC, depending on how your battery management system is set up. This flexibility is a programmable feature of each DC generator head we offer. It allows the system to safely charge batteries while protecting their lifespan and performance.

Each battery manufacturer has their own recommended charging levels, and our open frame DC generators are designed to support those specifications. Whether you’re using lithium-ion, lead-acid, or custom battery packs, our PM generators ensure clean and efficient charging.

At 48 V the 14 kW set works out at roughly 260 A and the 25 kW set at roughly 460 A across the 54–60 V charging window. Both are available open-frame, with an integrated 200, 400 or 600 litre tank, or in a sound-attenuated enclosure. Spark-ignition versions are on the gas DC generator page, and standalone battery-bank installations are covered under DC generators for off-grid systems.

48 V generator head model range

If the application already has an engine, the alternator is supplied on its own. Nine 48 V generator heads are built as standard, in flywheel-mounted and J609 face-mounted form.

Don't Oversize Your Power System

While the 48V DC generator setup is one of the most popular, it’s important to size your system correctly. Using too much current at 48V can lead to heat build-up, loss of efficiency, or the need for liquid cooling. That’s why our experts help you choose the right DC genset configuration based on your current and load demands.

Oversizing might seem like a safe bet, but in a 48V system, it can work against your energy efficiency. With our optimized open frame generator designs and high-quality permanent magnet generators, you get the right balance between power and performance.

Built for Versatile Applications

Our 48V DC gensets are used in a wide variety of industries and applications, including:

Telecom backup systems

  •

Electric vehicle battery charging

  •

Solar battery charging support

  •

Off-grid and remote equipment

  •

Mobile charging units and trailers

  •

APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) systems

  •

Whether you need an open frame DC genset for easy integration or a compact auxiliary power unit for mobile systems, we have a solution for you.

Expand Your Power Capabilities with Innotec 48V DC Gensets

In today’s fast-paced world, having a reliable and scalable DC power solution is more important than ever. That’s why our 48V DC gensets are built not only for performance but also for flexibility. Whether you’re charging batteries in electric vehicles or running backup systems in telecom towers, our DC generators deliver dependable results every time.

One key advantage of our 48V DC generator units is their ability to integrate seamlessly into different platforms. From mobile power trailers to APU systems, you can count on smooth operation, low noise, and minimal maintenance. Our permanent magnet generators (PM generators) ensure stable voltage and superior energy conversion — even in remote or harsh conditions.

Compact, Lightweight & Open Frame Design

Space and weight matter, especially in mobile and off-grid setups. That’s why our open frame DC generators are engineered to be lightweight and compact. These units are easy to install, service, and transport — making them ideal for OEMs, integrators, and field operators.

Need a customized open frame generator? We offer flexible shaft configurations, mounting patterns, and electrical specs. Whether you’re designing a standalone APU or a fully integrated auxiliary power unit, our open frame DC gensets can be tailored to your needs.

24 V or 48 V — choosing the bus

Below about 10 kW, and where the load is already a 24 V vehicle or telecom plant, 24 V is usually the right bus — nothing on board has to be re-rated. Above 10 kW, or where the cable run between the set and the bank is long, 48 V halves the current for the same power and therefore roughly halves the conductor cross-section. That is why the 25 kW set is built at 48 V only.

For electric and hybrid vehicles the same machines are supplied as a 48 V range extender — flange mounted on a spline shaft to integrate into a driveline. The same two platforms are also built at 72 V, charging at 72–84 VDC, where the current drops again by a third, and at 96 V for machine and APU loads. For traction and DC-microgrid work above 96 V, the DC generator range covers 300 V, 400 V and 600 V buses.

Frequently asked questions

What voltage does a 48 V DC generator actually output?48 to 60 VDC. The window is programmable so the set can follow the charging profile the battery manufacturer specifies, rather than holding one fixed voltage.
How much current does a 48 V DC generator deliver?About 260 A from the 14 kW set and about 460 A from the 25 kW set, across the 54 to 60 V charging window.
Can it charge lithium and lead-acid banks?Yes. The controller is programmed to the bank chemistry, and both lithium-ion and lead-acid profiles are supported, as are custom packs.
Should I choose 24 V or 48 V?24 V where the existing load is 24 V and power is below roughly 10 kW. 48 V above that, or where the cable run is long, because the same power flows at half the current.
